[MFP] Microfin Update and Usage Survey

Hi all,

Apologies for those who are also part of the Microfin group list, but I wanted to update those who may not be part of the Microfin list as well.

A quick update on Microfin:

I’ve uploaded the tutorials (demos, instructional videos) to the website, both in English and Spanish.  Granted they are 10 years old, and they show how microfin used to work before Excel 2007 came out with its large ribbon.  You can click on one of the videos and watch it by itself through your web browser, or you could download a ‘zip’ file in English or Spanish and uncompress them and watch them offline.  Do note that all 66 videos, even when compressed, result in a 200 MB download, which may take some time, depending on the speed of your internet connection.  The Microfin website continues to be: microfin.mfiresources.org

I also forgot to note that the “check to see if there’s a new version of microfin” message doesn’t appear with this latest release.  The internal date check was updated for the release date so this message won’t appear for another six months, approximately.

I would be very happy if you’d take 5 minutes or less to fill out a very brief survey regarding your use of Microfin.  There are 4 brief questions before I ask for your contact information.  This will help me gauge the effort I should devote to further development of the software as well as the demand for training on Microfin and related business planning.  I sincerely appreciate your time.

The survey is located here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FZ9LHP2

Thanks,

-howard

[MFP] Microfin 4.143 (beta) available today

Hi all,

Apologies for cross and potentially duplicative postings.

I have taken on the challenge to make Microfin work again, as intended, before Microsoft made some changes to Excel that made things not behave as they did before.  I'm excited to let you know that there is a BETA release now available, which I'm calling Microfin 4.143.  It can be downloaded here:

http://microfin.mfiresources.org/index.php/resources

Should you upgrade to this version?

If you're just using microfin in consolidated mode without voluntary savings, you're probably ok to stay in your current version.  But if you're interested in using the savings features (indexing to an external currency or adjusting for inflation) or using branch or region mode with multiple loan products, or wishing to apply financing or non-financing costs to the relevant regions, this version will allow you to do so (again).  Also, this version re-introduces the ability of Microfin to show the amount of RAM used while working in Microfin.  I was able to open 5 regional sheets and 5 loan products, linking each of those regional sheets to each loan product, and it increased the used RAM by about 220 MB in both 32 and 64 bit versions of Excel.

If you find any errors or problems, or macro fails, please let me know.  I will work to fix replicable errors in a future release early in June.  If you have ideas for future enhancements for Microfin, feel free to let me know those as well.  Major development will require fundraising, just so you know.

No suggestion or comment is too trivial or small at this point.

Thanks,

-howard

[MFP] Microfin 4.143 (beta) available today

Hi all,

Thanks,

-howard

Dear all Greetings. Finman Group, in collaboration with Texas School of Continuing Education & Recruitment, USA is organizing a one day workshop on managing delinquency risk effectively on May 26, 2016 at Lahore, Pakistan.

As you are aware that the Loan delinquency, which can lead to default, is probably the largest single cause for the downfall of institutions involved in the provision of financial services. Even in financial institutions operating quite successfully, the specter of delinquency and default must be continually addressed.

After attending this course, the participants will be able to:
1. Apply effective technique to manage delinquency
2. Learn about collection process and 'danger signals' in the process
3. Develop a thorough understanding of the verification cycle and verification techniques
4. Learn the 'POWER' tool for collection dues from customers
5. Learn techniques to handle angry customers

Training is being organized by an experienced professional / trainer based in USA on May 26, 2016 at Falettis Hotel Lahore. Detailed brochure is enclosed. Please feel free to nominate concerned officials from your organization.
