RRBs: Women-Only Branches By KVGB

Karnataka V i k a s Grameena Bank (KVGB) will be launching three all-women branches by the end of the current financial year, according to Ashok Reddy, chairman of the bank. Inaugurating the 560th branch of the bank at Hireharkuni village in Dharwad district, he said in an effort to empower women, the bank is set to open three more all-women branches in addition to the existing two. Though men are allowed to carry out banking transactions in these branches, priority will be given to women. He said the bank encourages women to take up entrepreneurship and start ventures on their own by extending various loans through these branches. Reddy said that the bank's main focus is on improving the living standards of the people, especially villagers, in its area of operation. The bank will open 20 more branches before the end of the current financial year. The bank is exploring the possibilities of introducing 'ATM-on-wheels' facility in un-banked areas under its jurisdiction. The ATM, which will be operated on a van, will be stationed in identified un-banked villages at specific timings of the day, Reddy said.
