I received this message from someone who wants to remain anonymous:
"Thanks for your post on the mfp. I don’t post to groups, but you should be aware that the hunger in America campaign stats are based on a very amorphous term called “struggling with hunger”, not actually going hungry. In fact our problems are more about obesity than eating too little. “struggle with hunger” is defined as going through periods of not knowing where one’s next meal is coming from. I think it is more than one such period a year. So a seasonal worker or part-time worker or someone who lives off govt aid are defined as struggling with hunger. With something like 20% of our population getting food stamps, it’s kind of ridiculous to think that statistic is meaningful"
HERE IS MY ANSWER:
Thanks for your comments. I'm in Hilo, Hawaii now to learn about Korean Natural Farming and the Homegrown Revolution. A few days ago I was near the bus station in Hilo. I heard two residents talking and exchanging information about where to eat, i.e. at St-Joseph church on Monday, at Salvation Army on Tuesday, the Hilo United Methodist Church on Wednesday and so one. These people did not suffer from obesity. People traveling in America are struck by the number of poor people they see.

The video creator is referring to the majority of Americans' perception of what socialism is, not what it actually is. So yes, there's yet another thing we are generally misinformed about.
