[MFP] CGAP Newsflash: CGAP Spotlight on Sub-Saharan Africa

CGAP Newsflash: CGAP Spotlight on Sub-Saharan Africa

The new blog series, Spotlight on Sub-Saharan Africa, offers new insight on several important topics and countries in the region. The series begins with a review of latest Financial Access Survey data from the IMF which shows that the number of commercial bank depositors in Sub-Saharan Africa leapt nearly four-fold from 2004 to 2012. Even though the region still trails other low-income areas on this measure, it is closing the gap and gaining momentum. CGAP explores what's behind this progress in this blog series, where authors hone in on the innovations making it easier for unbanked individuals to access financial services.

Other areas that CGAP explores in this series include innovations for smallholder farmers in Madagascar, interest rate caps, understanding customers' financial behavior in Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal, and the customer approach to mobile money in Ghana.

Catch up with the series at CGAP.org, share your favorite posts on Twitter (@CGAP) and watch the space for forthcoming updates.
