As you are aware, ACCESS-ASSIST, registered as a Trust and is a specialized affiliate of ACCESS Development Services on Financial Inclusion. ACCESS-ASSIST pursues a 3 tier approach to strengthen and support the microfinance sector and has dynamic initiatives at all levels:
· Tier I – Projects on the ground
· Tier II – Technical Services, and other research and consulting services.
· Tier III – Sectoral initiatives through the Microfinance India Platform
Since its inception in 2009, ACCESS-ASSIST has contributed significantly in the realm of responsible finance initiatives in India (Tier III). Following are some of the key initiatives of ACCESS-ASSIST in this regard:
· ASSIST has been coordinating the Microfinance India Summit. In terms of the objectives, the platform envisages to facilitate informed deliberations among the key stakeholders in the microfinance sector towards enabling policies for improving access to finance for poor households, as well as improving practices related to responsible finance. This year the Summit is scheduled from December 9-10, 2013 in Hotel Ashok, New Delhi. You can register yourself and your colleagues for attending the conference at http://www.microfinanceindia.org/
· The State of the Sector Report is being published annually since 2006 has positioned itself uniquely as the most referred document by stakeholders particularly the government, RBI, banks, apex financial institutions, MFIs, among others in order to formulate policies on microfinance, formulating lending strategies, and learning about best practices and trends on responsible finance nationally and globally. · One of ACCESS-ASSIST' biggest contribution to the responsible finance agenda in the Indian context has been in bringing knowledge on social performance management from the international perspective and best practices through the Social performance report. The report is being published annually by ACCESS-ASSIST since 2011, and is unique in itself not just only in India but globally in terms of showcasing trends and progress on social performance parameters of the Indian microfinance sector.
