CGAP Newsflash: Sharia-Compliant Financial Services Islamic microfinance is undoubtedly gaining momentum. But despite the doubling of Sharia-compliant microfinance providers since 2006 and the rapid increase in the number of their customers, Islamic microfinance is still dominated by a handful of service providers in a handful of countries offering primarily two products. An ongoing blog series on CGAP.org features experts on Sharia-compliant financial inclusion who suggest possible ways to address these challenges. So far, the series covers Al-Amal Microfinance Bank's experience in Yemen, the potential for niche providers in Pakistan, and the need to better understand what Muslim microfinance clients actually need.
