Available for Afghanistan: Progress out of Poverty Index® (PPI®) Simple Poverty Scorecard

The PPI toolkit, which includes the PPI scorecard, look-up tables, interpretation of indicators, sample-size calculator and other relevant documents that organizations can leverage when using the Afghanistan PPI, is available at:

"A Simple Poverty Scorecard for Afghanistan" is a document by Mark Schreiner which describes the design, construction, validation, and other facets for the Afghanistan tool. It is at:

The Afghanistan PPI is an easy-to-use simple poverty scorecard that estimates the likelihood that a household has expenditure below a given poverty line. The PPI uses ten simple indicators that field workers can quickly collect and verify. The scorecard's accuracy and precision are reported for a range of poverty lines. The PPI is derived from Afghanistan's 2007/8 National Risk and Vulnerability Survey (NRVA). The PPI is a practical way for pro-poor programs in Afghanistan to estimate poverty rates, track changes in poverty rates over time, and target services.

The PPI is a poverty measurement tool that Grameen Foundation promotes to help organizations achieve their social objectives more effectively. The PPI is based on an approach developed by Mark Schreiner of Microfinance Risk Management, L.L.C.
