Re: [MFP] MFP is completely coming to an end tomorrow

Greetings Chuck and the remaining subscribers!

Thanks for moderating this discussion board over the years.

It's been a great source of insights for me as I learned about the MF industry and related financial consumer protection challenges.

For any one who is interested, the Global Alliance for Legal Aid is going to be publishing some research on what happens to borrowers when they default--an analysis of legal frameworks, civil procedures and impact on the borrowers.  Initial research was done in 2016 with the assistance of Mayer Brown law firm UK and several lawyers from HSBC in an array of developing countries.

We are now updating the research because laws have changed in several of the focus countries.  And, we may review additional countries with the goals of 1) first mapping countries where the debt default consequences are most dire (eg incarceration; such as in Egypt, Uganda, Sierra Leone just to name a few), and 2) eventually mapping the globe (developed countries included).

I always wanted such a resource so that I could highlight to investors the potential consequences of their funding lenders who then abuse their clients and the justice system as a part of their business model.

Thanks to Mayer Brown and also the pro bono support of Advocates for International Development we can do this work.  Results will be posted on www.Debt-Policy.org   There is nothing currently there, and it may be several months before anything is, so if you would like to be notified when the research is updated and posted online, my email is jamisolli@gmail.com.

Additionally, if you are currently working in a country that you would like to add to our list, or just see whether any research has been done on that country, please feel free to connect.

Hoping you are all staying well and happy.

And, thanks again to Chuck and Howard for their support and commitment to sharing of experiences and insights from around the globe.

Warm regards,
Jami Solli

Hi all,

Howard and I set up this email group on Yahoo on 1 May 2001, over 19 years ago. We have 2,656 members. In the past, there was a large amount of discussion on this group, but for various reasons, it currently has little activity.

I just got notice that Yahoo is closing down the email group service tomorrow. They gave not even a week's notice. As of tomorrow, your emails will be returned as unsinkable.

So this is it…. Any discussions will now have to take place on other services you've migrated to. I'm certainly not going to go to the effort of setting up a new group and managing memberships when there is so little activity on the current group.

It has certainly been an interesting (and tumultuous) 19 years. Lots of differing views on the changes that happened in so short a time. Discussions of those views will now need to take place in other venues.

Regards to all,

Chuck Waterfield
MFP Founder
And yes… .it's 7am, I need to head out and milk my goats. They are wondering where I am.
