CGAP Newsflash: CGAP Sets New Strategic Direction

After extensive external and internal consultations, the CGAP Board approved the next five-year strategy for CGAP at its annual meeting in May. The new strategy emphasizes five priority themes:

  • Understanding demand to effectively deliver for the poor;
  • Financial innovation for smallholder families;
  • Developing robust provider ecosystems;
  • Building an enabling and protective policy environment globally;
  • Promoting effective and responsible funding for financial inclusion.

Read more about each of these themes in a special blog series at CGAP.org.

The annual meeting was attended by CGAP's members, which include more than 35 development agencies, private foundations, and national governments that share a common vision of improving the lives of poor people with better access to finance. Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands spoke at the meeting and emphasized the important role of financial inclusion in achieving development goals. EIB President Werner Hoyer also addressed the meeting, pointing out that "inclusion is vital."
