The experiences of innovative microfinance institutions (MFIs) have made it clear that they can be effective distribution channels for microinsurance. The findings of a survey reviewing 450 MFIs suggest that MFIs are evolving beyond basic credit life insurance.
This briefing note provides a concise review of the challenges and successes of microfinance institutions and offers ten key recommendations for MFIs to improve their microinsurance offerings.
